1. How often should a deck be stained or sealed?
Most decks should be stained or sealed every 2–3 years, depending on sun exposure, foot traffic, and weather. In East Tennessee’s climate, UV exposure and humidity can shorten that window, so regular maintenance is critical to prevent cracking, splintering, and rot.
3. What’s the difference between staining and sealing a deck?
Staining adds color while protecting the wood from moisture and UV damage. Sealing is typically clear or lightly tinted and focuses primarily on moisture protection. Many modern products combine both, but the right choice depends on your deck’s condition, age, and desired appearance.
4. Do you need to pressure wash the deck before staining?
Yes. Proper surface prep is non-negotiable. We clean the deck to remove dirt, mildew, and old residue so the stain can properly penetrate and bond. Skipping this step leads to premature peeling and uneven results.
4. How long does deck staining take from start to finish?
Most deck staining projects take 1–2 days, depending on size, condition, and weather. This includes cleaning, drying time, staining, and final inspection. Larger or heavily weathered decks may require additional prep time.
6. Can you match the deck color to my house or deck?
Absolutely — we offer coordinated color matching.
7. What type of stain is best for my deck?
That depends on the wood type and condition.
• Transparent stains highlight natural grain but offer less UV protection.
• Semi-transparent stains balance appearance and durability.
• Solid stains provide maximum protection and are ideal for older or worn decks.
We help you choose the best option for longevity and appearance.
